Viruses and “Scareware”

We received another call this morning from someone who got the “Windows Security Virus”.  This is a virus that first occurs as a legitimate looking pop-up screen that says your machine has been infected.  (Although the gentleman this morning said it looked like it had been written by someone whose first language was not English.)  It tells you to click a button to protect your machine.  When you click, you are actually giving those bad guys access to your machine to download a very malicious (and hard-to-remove) virus.  There’s a great article about this practice from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/antivirus-rogue.aspx

As always, we recommend that you keep your anti-virus up-to-date and turned on.  And, think twice before clicking!

Star Trek

Chris has been enamored with Star Trek since the original series.  I didn’t realize what a problem this would be when we got married, but since that time there’s been “The Next Generation”, “Deep Space Nine”, “Voyager”, and “Enterprise”.   Of course he’s geeky enough to want all the Star Trek products.  We’ve put together a collection of them here.

Happy Computing!
